Suburban Aquatic League

Springfield Aquatic Club is a member of the Suburban Aquatic League (SAL).  The purpose of this program is to develop skills in the sport of competitive swimming and diving; teach good sportsmanship; and provide a means of healthy self-expression for those participating.

The 2010-2011 SAL season marks our 14th year as the Springfield Aquatic Club.  Our goal this year is to continue to reinforce our club's strong foundation to make competitive swimming and diving an enjoyable experience for everyone involved in our program.

SAL is composed of 22 teams that have been assigned to four divisions.

Suburban Aquatic League Rules and Information

SAL Meet Information can be found here

There are some important (and sometimes confusing) rules that govern the league and meets in which SAC competes. These rules are specific to the SAL and do not apply to USA Swimming. Please make note of the following rules and also be aware that SAC has NO authority to modify or amend these rules. Please review each of these rules carefully.

THE 10 DAY RULE - a swimmer/diver MUST be on the roster 10 days prior to a meet. This typically means the Wednesday before the following Saturday for our meets. Once you are on the roster you are good for the season.

THE 40% RULE - Swimmers MUST compete in 40% of the regular season dual meets in order to be eligible for the championship meets held in January and February. This season that means 2 of the 5 regular dual meets held in Nov and Dec. This rule applies to divers for the 2010-11 season.

THE 4 EVENT RULE - A swimmer or diver can compete in a maximum of 4 events during a meet. This can be 1 relay and 3 individual events, or 2 relays and 2 individual events. For league champs, this rule is modified and a swimmer can complete in 2 relays and 3 individual events. Diving is considered an individual event so any athlete who swims and dives is still bound by the 4 event rule.

SAL MEETS - There are also a number of different types of meets in the SAL: Crossover, Dual, Double Dual, Invitational, Championship, etc. that sometimes have different rules and requirements.

RELEASE - If you swam for another club within the SAL last winter OR the previous winter (the previous 2 seasons) you must obtain, in writing (email is OK and preferred), a release from that club to compete for SAC. The league has very specific rules that govern this procedure. Please contact SAC if you have any questions or concerns about this. THIS ONLY APPLIES TO WINTER SWIMMING WITHIN SAL (e.g., UDAC, ABAC, etc.)

SWIM SUIT RULE for 12 and unders - Swimsuits worn for all 12 & under age group defined competition shall not cover the neck, extend past the shoulder, nor past the knee. (This NEW rule is being instituted by USA swimming in May 2009. The SAL is adopting it for the 2008-09 swim season.)

If you have any questions on these league rules, please speak to one of the current team reps: Earl Ueling or Sue Resch for swimming.. If we do not know the answer, we can find out for you quickly. PLEASE DO NOT MAKE ANY ASSUMPTIONS - IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS, ASK AHEAD OF TIME. SAC has no authority to amend these rules.
