In addition to our regular-season competitive swimming and diving teams, SAC is offering the following programs.  Sign-up for these programs will be by mail and during walk-in registration in September.

Developmental Team -- This program, designed for younger swimmers, teaches the basics of the four competitive strokes, starts, and basic race technique.  Ideal for swimmers with no experience in competition, the pre-competitive team will meet two nights a week from early November to early February. SAC coaches will conduct these sessions.  Swimmers in this program must be able to swim one lap of the pool.  Our developmental team, offers younger swimmers the option to practice two nights a week, with the SAC coaching staff teaching them basic stroke and turn techniques.  Developmental team swimmers usually do not compete, although nothing prevents them from swimming in meets if they so chose.  Requirement to practice with the developmental team is the ability to swim one lap of the pool at the discretion of the coaching staff.  The developmental team is limited to 30 swimmers MAX, so be sure to sign up early!

USA Swimming -- We will offer the USA Swimming option this season.  Due to increased coaching hours, there will be a surcharge of $110 per swimmer, plus the $57 registration fee paid to USA Swimming.  The season extends approximately 5 weeks beyond the regular SAC season to prepare for post-season meets.  Swimmers may attend 4-5 USA meets as a team this year.  Swimmers in this program should be prepared to attend four practices/week.  Anyone interested in this program can contact the Team’s USA Parent Representative, Lizanne Hendershott.  USA-08 form is available here.  The USA meets meets are part of the national system of swim meets. There is a registration fee for becoming a USA Swimming member, and an entry fee for each meet. Any swimmer interested in USA Swimming meets should consult with Coach Andy early in the season and complete the necessary registration form to join USA Swimming (the form is also available from the SAC website). We will expect that, in the case of conflicts between USA Swimming meets and SAL meets, SAC members will give SAL meets priority. Andy will be our US Swimming coordinator this year, and he will provide information to those families with an interest in this option. Information about USA Swimming is also available by following the link on the SAC web site to Middle Atlantic Swimming (our regional USA Swimming organization). The USA Swimming registration form is available on this web site ("Downloads" page).

Practice Information – Practices are scheduled to begin Tuesday Oct. 16, 2007 for the team and the week of Nov. 7 for the pre-team.  We will keep all of our members updated via email and our website as soon as we get additional information.  A practice schedule will be published by the first practice, but all swimmers should expect at least an hour of practice each night (ages 11&up should expect 1½ hours).  We will also add a dry-land routine of exercises and stretching of 15 minutes after the start of the season.

Suburban Aquatic League Swimming and Diving.  Springfield Aquatic Club is a member of the Suburban Aquatic League (SAL).  The purpose of this program is to develop skills in the sport of competitive swimming and diving; teach good sportsmanship; and provide a means of healthy self-expression for those participating.  More information on SAL is available on this web site and at the Suburban Aquatic League web site:  http://www.suburbanaquatic.org/

Invitational Meets -- Throughout the season there are a number of invitational/trophy meets. These are usually held on Sundays and are open to any SAL league member. There is a small fee per event and (as always) a limit on the number of events that can be entered (typically 3 or 4 events). These meets are considered "extras", which are entirely optional. Invitational meets are sanctioned by SAL, meaning that times from these meets are considered in the seeding for championships.  Information flyers on these meets is provided at the pool.  Check the bulletin board and this web site for details.

The Fall Tune-Up is designed for swimmers 11&older.  This program is for swimmers who have previous competitive experience and are seeking pre-season training.  The Fall tune-up will begin Monday October 1, 2007.  Sessions will be held 4 afternoons per week from 6:30 PM-8:00 PM  Monday through Thursday.  Participation is open to SAC swimmers 11 years old and up interested in competitive swimming.  Swimmers who are 10 yo and younger MUST OBTAIN COACHES PERMISSION to register for the Fall Tune up

Team Guidelines

1. The swimmer's/diver's age on October 31, 2007 will determine his/her competition age for the entire SAL season.

2. All members are encouraged to practice 3 times per week. Please check practice schedules and plan accordingly. Please note, practices are assigned by the coaching staff based on age and ability.  Pre-team members are only permitted to practice at designated times.

3. Children must be dropped off and picked up no more than 15 minutes before or after practice. Coaches are not responsible to monitor children beyond these times.

4. The coaching staff are expecting your children to participate. You must leave a note for the coaches if you cannot attend that week's meet.  Emergencies do occur however members who fail to meet these guidelines may not be able to compete in the next meet.

5. Parents are expected to participate in this program. The success of such a club is in the level of assistance received to help manage the meets. The jobs are easy to do and training sessions will be available prior to the first meet. Please contact any SAC Board Member if you have not yet signed up to help.

6. Any member found vandalizing the Springfield High School property or another member's property will be dismissed from the team.

7. Smoking is not permitted in the Springfield High School Building.

8. SAC will not have practice on days Springfield Township High School (number 319) is closed (holidays or inclement weather). Please check the hotline for these changes in scheduling.

9. Parents will contact a member of the Executive Board, for any and all concerns regarding the Springfield Aquatic Club. The Board Member will direct this information to the coaches and/or General Board as necessary.

10. The swimmer/diver can participate in four (4) events in any one meet. These events consist of one (1) relay and three (3) events and diving is considered an event.

11. Refund Policy : You will receive 100% refund through the first week of practice. You will receive 75% refund before the first meet.  After this meet, there is no refund. Diving Insurance is not refunded.
